Avro Lancaster
Arguably one of the most iconic planes that was ever produced, the Avro Lancaster was the most successful 'heavy' bomber. During the later years of the war, the Lancaster became of the British Air Force's Bomber Command. The Lancaster had a unique 'split tail' design, allowing for a more accurate and mobile gunner position. It was on this aircraft Tony Adams completed 21 of the 36 missions he flew.

Boeing B-17 'Flying Fortress'
The B-17 was one of the best long range bomber aircraft in service to the Allied Forces. The aircraft was an American design, utilised by the United States Army Air Force (USAAF), seeing action in the Pacific and Europe. With its 13 machine guns, the B-17 was nicknamed the Flying Fortress due to its defensive and destructive capabilities.

Heinkel 1-11
The Heinkel 1-11 was a German bomber. The plane saw its most frequent use during the Battle Of Britain. The twin engine was the work horse of the Lufftwaffe (the German Airforce), being the only successful German bomber design that was mass produced.

Messerschmitt BF 109
Almost every fighter pilot in the Lufftwaffe had flown the single seat, Messerschmitt BF 109. The Messerschmitt flew in the Battle Of Britain, escorting the Heinkels over the Channel. They clashed with Spitfires and Hurricanes suffering many casualties.

Supermarine Spitfire
The wonder weapon of the Royal Airforce, the Supermarine Spitfire (single seat like its adversary; the Messerschmitt) was the most well renowned and celebrated fighters of the War. There were 24 Marks (versions) of the aircraft, each bettering the one before it .

Focke Wulf Fw 190
During the last years of the War, the Focke Wulf 190 was the best plane in service. It was a German make with a sleek design, built for speed, manoeuvrability and destruction. The aircraft was eventually out performed by a new version of the Spitfire. Soon, the war was over.
